Promoting Mental Well-Being, Reducing Stigma, and Connecting Residents to Lifesaving Resources

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and the Langlade County Health Department (LCHD) is reaffirming its commitment to mental health and well-being as a top priority in the county’s Community Health Improvement Plan.

Suicide is a complex and deeply personal issue, but it is also preventable. LCHD encourages residents to take this month as an opportunity to talk openly about mental health, check in with loved ones, and learn about the resources available to support those in crisis.

One powerful tool available to Langlade County residents is langlade.crediblemind.com, a free, confidential online platform offering evidence-based information, self-assessments, and resources to support emotional wellness. Whether you're looking for help with anxiety, stress, sleep, or substance use, Credible Mind provides personalized guidance to help individuals take control of their mental health.

Additionally, anyone experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts is urged to call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This national service connects individuals to trained counselors 24/7, offering compassionate support and immediate help.

“Reducing stigma around mental health is essential,” said Meghan Willians, Health Officer, Langlade County Health Department. “We want our community to know that it’s okay to ask for help, and that resources like Credible Mind and 988 are here to support them.”

LCHD continues to work with local partners to promote mental well-being and build a more resilient community. Suicide prevention is not just a one-month effort—it’s a year-round priority.
