May is Mental Health Awareness Month

This month, the Langlade County Health Department is sharing information across the county in recognition of Mental Health Month. You may see information at various locations throughout Langlade County including: a mental health display board is set up at the Senior Center and the Antigo Public Library, posters and 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline resources at local businesses, including Fleet Farm, Barron’s Brown Mug, and the Health Department lobby, and a county-wide social media campaign is helping spread the message that support is available.

The 988 Suicide & Crisit Lifeline is free, confidential, and open 24 hours a day. Anyone can call or text 988 to get help during a mental health crisis or if they are worried about someone else.

The Health Department is also promoting CredibleMind, a free online mental health platform for all Langlade County residents. CredibleMind offers tools to help with stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep. It includes videos, articles, and simple ways to build healthy habits.

Mental health is a serious concern across the country. About 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience a mental health condition each year. Suicide is also one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., but help is available and recovery is possible.

Karen Marten, Public Health Nurse, shared this message:
"Mental health is just as important as physical health. It is okay to ask for help, and no one should feel alone. Small steps, like talking to someone or using helpful tools, can make a big difference."

The Langlade County Health Department encourages everyone to learn more, check in with loved ones, and use available resources.
